Biography

Mona Shapiro practices exclusively as a civil litigator, handling a large variety of legally and factually complex litigated matters, primarily arising in real estate and business contexts. After graduating from New York University School of Law, she began her career in a New York City firm. She also taught legal research and writing at New York University School of Law.  In 1984, she joined the firm and created its litigation practice group. She became a member of the firm in 1988. She is presently of counsel to the firm.

Ms. Shapiro has represented a large variety of clients, including individuals, real estate owners and developers, residential and commercial landlords, small businesses, and public companies. She is a tenacious advocate, and takes a creative and practical problem-solving approach to complex issues. Ms. Shapiro is known for her knowledge of substantive law and precision in her written work. She has tried jury and non-jury cases and arbitrations, argued numerous appeals in both State and Federal courts, and drafted many successful substantive and procedural motions. She has more than 65 reported cases, including decisions of the New York and Second Circuit Courts of Appeals, Southern District of New York, and Appellate Division, First, Second, and Third Departments, as well as several “Decisions of the Day” reported in the New York Law Journal. Ms. Shapiro was also honored in November, 2016 by the Westchester County Bar Foundation for "Distinguished Leadership, Vision and Dedication to the Bar, Our Foundation and Its Goals".
