Biography
Heather R. Gushue is a partner at the firm and an experienced civil litigator with nearly two decades of experience, with a particular emphasis on appellate advocacy. She represents individuals and businesses in complex real estate and commercial disputes, bringing an appellate mindset to every stage of litigation.
Heather began her legal career with the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department – one of the busiest appellate courts in the nation. As an Appellate Court Attorney, she worked closely with the Justices and prepared confidential memoranda across a broad range of substantive areas, developing a deep understanding of appellate decision-making and persuasive legal writing.
She later practiced in the New York City office of a large international law firm, where she represented global financial institutions and commercial lenders in high-stakes litigation and appeals, and advised on compliance matters involving state and federal regulators. Heather also gained international experience working in London on matters involving international banking regulation.
Heather has substantial experience in all phases of litigation, from pre-suit strategy through trial and appeal. She has drafted and argued numerous appeals in both state and federal courts. Her appellate background informs her strategic approach at the trial level, enabling her to frame issues with an eye toward preservation, positioning, and ultimate review. Clients value her ability to distill complex issues, craft compelling arguments, and pursue efficient resolutions – whether through motion practice, appeal, or negotiated settlement.
